Finding roots of Legendre Polynomials - initial guess formula30 Oct 2008 10:56 GMT6
I'm working on some numerical integration cases with Gaussian-Legendre
quadrature rules for which I need the calculation of Legendre polynomial
roots. I've been trying to implement a fast method of computing those
roots by myself. At first I decided to use bisection method to ...

FFT with arbitrary basis function?30 Oct 2008 02:39 GMT8
Is there such a thing as a fast fourier transform with an arbitrary
basis function other than a sine or cosine?
I know I can use, say, a triangle wave as a basis function for a
discrete fourier transform.  But I suspect simply replacing sin()
BFGS and similar minimizers29 Oct 2008 19:54 GMT1
I am essentially working on an energy minimization problem for a
spring-mass system, though with extra force terms involved. So, at any
given time, I can calculate the force vector acting on a mass
particle, but it is more difficult to compute the Hessian. So, it

Complex Elementary Transcendental Functions: f(z) = 1/z29 Oct 2008 18:16 GMT4
The behavior of elementary transcendental functions, with a real
argument (x), are well known (or should be) to every science student
and researcher.  However, this is not the case for the same functions
with a complex argument (z = x+iy; x,y real).
