Hello everyone does anyone know the how to convert a string variable to a numeric variable. I have read a data set from a SQL server and recoded the strings to numbers but I can when I change the variable to a numeric it erases all my values. Can anyone help?

Does anyone know how to create a macro that can write CSV files with the first row as the variable name (comma separated), and the subsequent rows as the comma separated values? This macro writes school level CSV files from a large SPSS file.

When reading an ODBC data source with "GET CAPTURE ODBC ... /select * ...", SPSS 14 imports the database fields in alphabetical order. Previous versions (up to 13) used to import the fields in the order in the database file, which I prefer.
